The Wick & Lybster Light Railway – located in the far north of Scotland – was a line that disappeared before Nationalisation. However, the successful restoration of one of the route’s surviving structures was marked at the 2017 National Railway Heritage Awards – held in December 2017 – when the Yarrows Heritage Trust was awarded the Stagecoach Volunteers Award for the superb work in bringing the building back into use. The plaque for the award was formally unveiled on Tuesday 21 August 2018 by John Gunn of sponsors Stagecoach. As the citation at the award ceremony commented: ‘The restoration of this station from a long closed line has been completed to a high standard. It is gratifying to see such an historic structure brought back into use and all involved can look back with pride on a project brought to an extremely successful conclusion.’
