The plaque awarded to Kier Construction in conjunction with the King’s Cross Central Ltd partnership and Bennetts Associates for their work in restoring the ex-Midland Railway goods shed at King’s Cross and the associated East Handyside Canopy was officially unveiled on site in a ceremony held on 1 September 2017.
The award was announced during the awards ceremony held at Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London on 7 December 2016 and reflected the success of the restoration in bringing a large industrial building, with greater historical than architectural interest, back into use. The work undertaken safeguarded the building’s historic features whilst making it suitable for contemporary purposes.
The 2016 Award was named in memory of Deborah Trebinski, the National Railway Heritage Awards’ long-serving Awards Manager, who sadly passed away during the summer of 2016. We were delighted that her husband, John Jouques, and son, James Trebinski, were able to be with us on the day when the plaque was officially unveiled.
