At the 2015 National Railway Heritage Awards, the entry that the adjudicators saw as the most impressive in that year’s competition was the restoration work undertaken on the roof at Farringdon station by London Underground Ltd. The plaque, presented to LUL at the award ceremony held at Merchant Taylors’ Hall last December, was formally unveiled at the station on Tuesday 15 November by John Ellis, Chairman of the National Railway Heritage Awards, with Mike Ashworth, LUL’s Design and Heritage Manager. The plaque, positioned on a stainless steel plinth, is located in a position that will draw attention to the work completed in renovating the only surviving double-span roof built to the design of Sir John Fowler in the mid-1860s.
